The City and County of San Francisco seeks an Associate Engineer (Civil) to support project design and development within our Public Works department, based in San Francisco, CA. This is a full-time position working on-site with our engineering team.

Position Summary

The Associate Civil Engineer role focuses on supporting the design, analysis, and delivery of municipal infrastructure projects. Working within Public Works, you'll assist in planning and developing transportation systems, water infrastructure, utilities, and public facilities that serve residents across San Francisco. This position offers hands-on exposure to all phases of civil engineering practice, from preliminary design through construction oversight.

Core Duties

  • Support the design and development of public infrastructure projects including streets, utilities, water systems, and public facilities
  • Conduct site assessments, surveys, and field investigations to gather project data
  • Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and engineering calculations using industry-standard software
  • Analyze design alternatives and evaluate feasibility for assigned projects
  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and city departments throughout project delivery
  • Review construction documents and assist with quality assurance and inspection activities
  • Document project progress and maintain comprehensive records and reports
  • Support compliance with city, state, and federal engineering standards and regulations
