Sr. Director, Intellectual Property (Ocean Tomo, a part of J.S. Held)

J.S. Held LLC is seeking a Sr. Director, Intellectual Property to lead Ocean Tomo, our intellectual property consulting division, in a full-time remote role available to qualified candidates nationwide. In this position, you'll drive strategy, build client relationships, and lead our IP advisory practice to new levels of success.

About the Role

As Senior Director of Intellectual Property at Ocean Tomo, you'll serve as a strategic leader responsible for overseeing our intellectual property consulting practice. You'll develop client relationships, expand service offerings, and ensure delivery excellence across a full range of IP challenges. This role combines high-level business strategy with hands-on involvement in client engagements and team leadership.

Core Duties

• Develop and execute growth strategies for the intellectual property consulting practice
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of IP consulting professionals
• Build and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients in intellectual property markets
• Oversee delivery of IP consulting services including valuations, infringement analysis, licensing guidance, and IP strategy
• Identify emerging opportunities in the intellectual property sector and develop new service offerings
• Manage financial performance, budgets, and profit margins for the practice
• Collaborate with senior leadership across J.S. Held to align strategic initiatives and resources

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of experience in intellectual property consulting, IP law, or IP-focused business roles
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and driving business growth in professional services
• Deep, practical knowledge of IP valuation, licensing, infringement analysis, and IP strategy
• Proven ability to manage complex, long-term client relationships and engagements
• Strong business acumen including P&L management and financial analysis
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with ability to influence at executive levels
• Professional degree or credential in law, business, engineering, or related discipline preferred
