If you're a building science expert with deep knowledge of fire safety regulations and architectural codes, this role offers the opportunity to guide complex projects toward regulatory compliance while supporting forensic investigations across Canada.
What This Role Involves
In this remote position, you'll function as a technical authority on building codes, fire safety standards, and regulatory compliance in the architectural and engineering context. You'll evaluate proposals, investigate compliance issues, and deliver expert analysis to clients, engineering firms, architects, and legal professionals navigating complex regulatory environments. Your expertise in Quebec and Canadian fire safety codes will help resolve disputes, assess design adequacy, and ensure that building projects meet all applicable standards.
Core Duties
- Review architectural and engineering designs against Quebec building codes, National Building Code provisions, and federal fire safety regulations
- Assess fire protection systems, life safety design, emergency egress, and occupant protection measures for code compliance
- Conduct forensic analysis of building code violations and fire safety deficiencies in existing structures or completed projects
- Provide technical opinions and expert guidance to architects, engineers, lawyers, and insurance professionals on code interpretation
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports documenting code compliance findings and recommending remediation strategies
- Research and advise on evolving building standards, regulatory amendments, and best practices in fire safety
- Support dispute resolution and litigation matters involving building codes and fire safety performance
Requirements
- Professional education in architecture, architectural technology, building science, or civil/mechanical engineering
- Advanced knowledge of Quebec building codes, National Building Code of Canada, and provincial fire safety regulations
- Current professional registration or designation (OAQ, OIQ, Professional Engineers Ontario, or equivalent Canadian credential)
- Proven experience in code compliance consulting, forensic building investigation, or architectural code review
- Excellent technical communication skills; ability to translate complex regulations into clear, actionable guidance
- Fluency in English (required); French language ability is highly valued for the Montreal context
- Comfortable working independently and collaborating remotely with teams across Canada and North America
