J.S. Held LLC, based in Winnipeg, MB, is hiring a full-time Consultant (Building Consulting) for a remote position serving clients across Canada and North America. This opportunity allows you to deliver expert analysis on complex building-related challenges from the flexibility of remote work.

Position Summary

Building Consultants at J.S. Held LLC provide independent technical expertise and strategic recommendations on construction defects, building code compliance, structural performance, and construction disputes. You'll investigate building conditions, assess technical and regulatory risk, and develop evidence-based solutions for clients facing construction-related challenges—whether for litigation support, risk management, or compliance matters.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed site assessments, building inspections, and visual surveys to evaluate conditions and regulatory adherence
• Review and analyse construction documents, engineering plans, building permits, and maintenance records
• Identify code violations, construction defects, safety concerns, and performance issues
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports with findings, methodology, photographs, and professional opinions
• Present findings to clients, legal counsel, contractors, and other stakeholders verbally and in writing
• Provide expert consultation and testimony support for dispute resolution and litigation
• Maintain knowledge of current building codes, construction standards, and industry regulations

Skills & Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of building systems, construction materials, installation methods, and best practices
• Solid understanding of building codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to your jurisdiction
• Professional qualification, degree, or certification in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related field
• Proven ability to communicate technical concepts clearly in reports and presentations
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail
• Capability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines independently
• Proficiency with standard business software, document management, and technical tools
