Director, Payroll Operations

LinkedIn is seeking a Director, Payroll Operations to lead payroll functions for our Sunnyvale, CA headquarters. This full-time remote role offers the opportunity to drive strategic payroll initiatives at scale.

Position Summary

As Director of Payroll Operations, you will own payroll strategy, compliance, and operational excellence across LinkedIn's global workforce. Leading a dedicated payroll team, you'll ensure accurate, timely payroll processing while managing evolving regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions. This is a critical finance role that combines tactical payroll expertise with strategic business impact.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the payroll operations team, setting standards for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
• Oversee end-to-end payroll processing, including compensation management, tax administration, and deductions
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and international payroll and employment regulations
• Partner with Human Resources, Finance, and Tax teams to streamline payroll processes and systems
• Evaluate, implement, and manage payroll technology platforms and vendor relationships
• Develop and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Analyze payroll data to identify process improvements and cost optimization opportunities
• Prepare accurate payroll reporting and analytics for internal and external stakeholders
• Stay current with payroll regulations, tax law changes, and industry best practices

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related discipline
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), Qualified Payroll Administrator (QPA), or equivalent certification
• 7+ years of payroll operations experience, including 3+ years in a leadership or management role
• In-depth knowledge of payroll compliance, employment tax, and regulatory requirements
• Hands-on experience with modern payroll systems and HCM platforms
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities across cross-functional teams
• Demonstrated ability to lead process improvements and drive operational efficiency
