About the Opportunity
We are representing a confidential insurance organization in search of an experienced Assistant Controller to join their remote team. Our client is an independently operated firm serving the small business community, and they're experiencing significant growth.
Reporting to the Controller, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing key accounting operations, and serving as the primary owner of carrier reporting and bordereaux reconciliation. This role requires someone who can bridge finance, data, and operations to ensure financial integrity across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Own the carrier reporting and bordereaux reconciliation process, reviewing policy-level reporting, commissions, and payment activity for accuracy and completeness
- Serve as liaison among Data, Finance, Product, and Program departments to identify discrepancies, determine root causes, and coordinate solutions with internal teams and carrier partners
- Lead or support implementation of accounting, reporting, and operational workflows, leveraging automation and technology to improve efficiency and controls
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to ensure account accuracy
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Review and approve accounts payable invoices, expense reports, and payment requests according to company policies
- Manage payment platform administration including user access, expense management, policy enforcement, and invoice workflows
- Monitor and reconcile banking activity; assist with ACH payments, wire transfers, and positive pay approvals
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
- Collaborate across departments to resolve inaccurate or incomplete information affecting financial records
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and process improvement opportunities
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and documentation
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, insurance regulations, trust accounting requirements, and company policies
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience including general ledger accounting, reconciliations, accounts payable, and financial reporting
- Insurance industry experience required
- Experience with month-end close processes required
- CPA license or active progress toward CPA required
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, accounting software, and financial databases with ability to manipulate and analyze large volumes of data
- Strong command of advanced Excel functions including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and data analysis tools
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations
- Public accounting experience preferred
- Experience with accounting systems, expense management platforms, and financial reporting tools preferred
- Knowledge of trust accounting and trust laws preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to collaborate across finance, operations, and cross-functional teams
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities under deadline pressure

Pay
Pay via Get A Job.ai: $110,000 - $120,000 per year
Benefits include: Health, dental, and vision plans; 4 weeks paid time off; 10 paid company holidays plus 2 floating holidays; 401(k) with employer match; and personal assistance programs.
