Commercial Expansion Intern

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential outdoor living brand in the midst of significant physical retail expansion across Germany. Our client is building their first showroom network and needs someone to help define the commercial playbook from scratch.

This internship sits at the intersection of real estate strategy, business modeling, and operational design. You'll work directly with leadership to answer fundamental questions: where should we expand, what makes a location viable, and how do we build a repeatable system that scales beyond the first few sites.

This is not observation or support work. You will conduct market research, negotiate with brokers and landlords, build financial models, and create the tools and frameworks that guide future expansion decisions.

Responsibilities

• Research and map priority markets across Germany, analyzing customer demand, retail formats, and competitive positioning
• Engage with commercial real estate brokers, landlords, and internal stakeholders to evaluate live expansion opportunities
• Build business cases and financial scenarios covering rent, capital investment, revenue potential, and payback periods
• Develop scorecards and decision frameworks that standardize location evaluation while maintaining market flexibility
• Design pipeline management systems, workflows, and lightweight dashboards to support expansion operations
• Create templates, automations, and AI-enabled tools that reduce repetitive work and accelerate decision cycles
• Document lessons from early showroom launches and translate findings into a scalable expansion playbook
• Travel within Germany to assess locations, meet partners, and gather real-world insights

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Currently enrolled in university or recently graduated (field of study flexible)
• Fluent in German and English, written and spoken
• Strong commercial instinct—able to distinguish what's analytically interesting from what's business-critical
• Comfortable moving between qualitative research, financial modeling, stakeholder conversations, and hands-on tool building
• Proven ability to create structure from ambiguous problems without waiting for detailed instructions
• Willingness to do direct outreach: calling brokers, chasing information, testing assumptions in the field
• Clear communication skills—can turn incomplete data into confident recommendations

Preferred:

• Exposure to commercial real estate, retail operations, consulting, startups, or business development
• Experience building business cases, internal processes, or decision-support tools from scratch
• Hands-on use of AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Replit or similar) to build automations, scrapers, dashboards, or data workflows
• Rapid prototyping mindset—comfortable shipping imperfect solutions that solve real problems

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process and are competitive with Berlin market rates for expansion and strategy internships.
