About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential healthcare organization in their search for an AVP, AI Strategy & Transformation. This is a high-visibility executive role responsible for owning enterprise-wide AI strategy, governance, and portfolio execution across a multi-entity healthcare system. You will serve as the primary AI strategy executive, partnering directly with the CIIO and enterprise IT leadership to translate AI investment into measurable clinical, operational, and financial outcomes.

This is not a research or exploratory role—it functions as the operating executive for enterprise AI transformation, bringing recommendations forward for sign-off and holding direct decision rights within defined thresholds. You will chair the AI Transformation Hub, drive the 90-day gate process, and serve as the accountability anchor for AI portfolio performance across all business units.

Responsibilities

• Own and advance the enterprise AI strategy in partnership with senior IT leadership, translating strategic frameworks into prioritized, funded, and accountable initiative portfolios
• Define the annual AI investment roadmap with clear ROI models and risk assessments; present recommendations to the executive council
• Chair the AI Transformation Hub, owning bi-weekly cadence, initiative registry, intake discipline, and all in-threshold go/no-go decisions
• Own the operating rhythm of the monthly AI Executive Council: setting agendas, preparing portfolio scorecards, escalation packages, and ROI progress reports
• Enforce the 90-day gate process for all active initiatives; make scale, stop, or pivot decisions within authority threshold
• Maintain the enterprise AI initiative registry across all business units; ensure every initiative has a named owner and active gate status
• Own delivery against the enterprise AI value creation framework, tracking initiative-level ROI and driving corrective action on underperforming initiatives
• Build and maintain the enterprise AI ROI tracking framework, connecting initiative outcomes to financial, clinical, and operational metrics
• Serve as the enterprise AI strategy partner to business unit leaders, translating AI capabilities into domain-specific value
• Evaluate AI vendor proposals and make selection recommendations; enforce fixed-fee, defined-scope contracting posture
• Ensure all AI initiatives comply with the Responsible AI framework: clinical safety, algorithmic bias review, explainability, regulatory compliance, data minimization, and human oversight
• Partner with Clinical Affairs and Compliance to ensure clinical AI tools complete mandatory safety assessments before go-live
• Design and run the After Action Report / retrospective cadence across governance tiers; drive continuous improvement to make the governance model faster and more effective
• Lead and develop the Director of Emerging Technology; build organizational AI fluency across the enterprise

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• 10+ years of progressive experience leading large-scale business transformation from ideation through delivery, scale, and measured results
• At least 5 years owning transformation programs with enterprise-wide, multi-entity scope
• Proven track record taking transformation initiatives from concept to operating reality in organizations where technology and data were central to outcomes
• Demonstrated experience owning governance and prioritization discipline for complex initiative portfolios in regulated or compliance-intensive environments
• Experience leading cross-functional governance bodies with ability to drive C-suite-level alignment and decisions without relying on direct line authority
• Demonstrated ability to deliver results primarily through influence and cross-functional leadership in complex, matrixed organizations
• Experience managing large, complex vendor relationships with fixed-fee commercial discipline

AI & Technology Fluency:

• Strong working knowledge of AI and ML technologies, including large language models, generative AI, predictive analytics, and NLP
• Ability to evaluate vendor claims, assess technical risk, and guide build vs. buy decisions
• Familiarity with healthcare AI platforms and vendors (ambient clinical documentation, clinical decision support, care management AI, revenue cycle automation)
• Understanding of data governance and data infrastructure requirements for reliable AI deployment
• Awareness of FDA SaMD regulatory pathway and HIPAA requirements as they apply to AI tools in clinical contexts
