Agentic Systems Engineer (Digital Services)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential UK-based technology consultancy working at the frontier of autonomous systems and applied AI. Our client builds human-centered digital services that reason, plan, and act—moving beyond passive tools to create systems with genuine agency. These projects span biology, sensing, robotics, and advanced AI applications for clients tackling unprecedented technical challenges.

As an Agentic Systems Engineer, you'll design and implement systems that maintain world models, interpret human intent, and intervene proactively. Think autonomous laboratory systems, intelligent coaching platforms that navigate unpredictable human biology, and sensor-driven reasoning architectures. You'll build layered agent harnesses spanning from edge reasoning to high-level planning, backed by stateful multi-turn reasoning, persistent memory, and robust evaluation pipelines.

This is a remote role with occasional travel to Cambridge for key meetings. Due to the nature of client work, you must be eligible for UK security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement autonomous system architectures including world models, multimodal sensing integration, and real-time human-machine interaction loops
• Build scalable distributed systems in Python and TypeScript using frameworks like NextJS and Pydantic
• Develop agent orchestration solutions using tools such as LangGraph and CrewAI, implementing protocols like MCP
• Deploy production-grade cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP, or Azure using Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code
• Implement rigorous CI/CD pipelines and observability solutions using OpenTelemetry and Prometheus
• Drive rapid prototyping and demo-first delivery to demonstrate tangible client value through working software
• Collaborate with deep-tech subject matter experts including biologists and roboticists to translate complex physical constraints into software solutions
• Build multi-agent frameworks, long-term memory systems, RAG pipelines, and reasoning-loop patterns

What We're Looking For

Core Technical Skills:

• Strong programming expertise in Python and TypeScript
• Hands-on experience with multi-agent frameworks, vector/graph databases, and reasoning patterns such as ReAct and Chain-of-Thought
• Practical cloud engineering experience with containerization and modern DevOps practices
• Experience building scalable, secure, and observable production systems
• Familiarity with agent orchestration tools and frameworks
