#975 – Data Engineer (Odoo)

Our talent team at Get A Job.ai is representing a confidential client in the midst of a critical data modernization initiative. They are migrating from legacy mainframe systems to a modern AWS-hosted architecture built around PostgreSQL and an integrated ERP platform. We're seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead the technical execution of this migration and build the foundation for their next-generation data ecosystem.

This is a long-term independent contractor role working remotely with a team operating on Central Standard Time. Our client values clear communication and collaborative problem-solving as they navigate this transformational project.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement migration strategies to move legacy operational data from AS400 and IBM DB2/400 environments into PostgreSQL on AWS
• Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for scheduled data extraction, transformation, validation, and loading across systems
• Create and support nightly data replication processes that enable reporting and analytics capabilities
• Develop integrations between PostgreSQL, the ERP platform, and external systems using APIs and appropriate integration patterns
• Analyze legacy data structures, mappings, and embedded business logic in partnership with stakeholders and technical subject-matter experts
• Build reporting-ready datasets, views, and data models to support dashboards and custom business intelligence needs
• Ensure data quality, consistency, monitoring, security, and comprehensive documentation across all pipelines and integrations
• Troubleshoot data discrepancies, integration failures, and performance bottlenecks as they arise
• Partner directly with business users to translate operational and reporting requirements into scalable technical solutions

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Advanced English proficiency (B2/C1/C2 level) for seamless cross-team communication
• Strong background as a Data Engineer, Integration Engineer, or similar role with proven delivery of data migration and modernization projects
• Advanced SQL expertise, particularly with PostgreSQL
• Demonstrated experience designing and building ETL/ELT pipelines and scheduled data workflows
• Hands-on experience with AWS-based data architectures and cloud services
• Strong track record with API integrations, particularly connecting ERP platforms and external systems
• Experience with data modeling, creating reporting datasets, and working with business intelligence tools and dashboards
• Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar legacy systems, complex data structures, and underlying business processes
• Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both business and technical stakeholders

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience working with AS400 / IBM i environments
• Hands-on knowledge of IBM DB2, including DB2/400
• Prior experience migrating data from legacy databases or mainframe-style systems
• Experience integrating with Odoo through APIs, modules, or database-level workflows
• Familiarity with Odoo data models and ERP integration patterns
• Experience with Power BI or similar cloud-based reporting and visualization tools
• Background supporting Excel-based reporting and data exports
• Domain knowledge in retail, inventory management, e-commerce, or operational data environments
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to accelerate documentation, data mapping, query development, and troubleshooting

This is a long-term independent contractor position with full-time hours (Central Standard Time). Benefits include paid US holidays and two weeks of paid time off annually.
