Poland – Director of Software Engineering (Experiences)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential travel technology organization in their search for a Director of Software Engineering based in Poland. This is a remote-first role requiring proximity to Krakow for periodic in-person collaboration.

Our client operates a high-growth marketplace platform connecting millions of users with curated experiences. This is a strategic leadership position overseeing engineering teams that build and scale systems serving a global audience.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a high-performing technical team by hiring, training, and mentoring engineers at all levels
• Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture while championing effective Agile development processes
• Develop project plans, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation strategies; ensure on-time delivery within scope and budget
• Provide hands-on technical leadership across multiple layers of the software and data stack; conduct code and design reviews
• Partner with principal engineers to drive technology strategy and roadmap aligned with organizational vision
• Collaborate with Product Management and business stakeholders to prioritize features and engineering-driven initiatives, balancing business outcomes with technical robustness
• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure alignment on goals, commitments, and timelines
• Define and enforce engineering best practices to maintain high-quality standards and complete deliverables on schedule

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of commercial software development experience
• Proven track record as a second-line leader with direct experience managing, coaching, and developing Engineering Managers
• Background working in product-focused companies, collaborating closely with stakeholders to build product and technical roadmaps
• Direct responsibility for performance feedback and formal career planning for team members
• Strong mentorship skills, helping engineers grow both technically and professionally
• Solid understanding of modern technology stacks with hands-on experience designing and building scalable, high-performance systems
• Excellent ability to break down complex problems into simple, actionable solutions
• Proven leadership driving major projects and participating in cross-functional teams in fast-paced, dynamic environments
• Accountability for high-quality execution, operations, and overall team performance
• Strong analytical skills to identify risks early, mitigate issues, and provide contingency plans
• Ability to make high-level decisions about product and technical direction, balancing business objectives with engineering capabilities
• Understanding of modern software delivery methodologies and project management tools
• Location within commutable distance (generally up to 1.5 hours) from Krakow for periodic team gatherings
