Software Engineer, International

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization that is building sophisticated payment infrastructure for global markets. Our talent team has been engaged to find a Software Engineer who will help expand international payment capabilities across multiple countries and currencies.

This is a backend-focused platform engineering role based in London, working on foundational systems that enable cross-border payments, multi-currency operations, and compliance with regional banking requirements. You'll be building the infrastructure that powers international expansion from the ground up.

Responsibilities

• Build payment infrastructure that operates across multiple countries, currencies, and regulatory frameworks
• Design and implement multi-currency accounting and reconciliation systems at scale
• Integrate with international banking systems and payment rails including SEPA, BACS, and SWIFT
• Balance greenfield development (launching new markets from zero) with scaling existing production systems
• Collaborate with compliance, product, operations, and external banking partners on complex regional requirements
• Own problems end-to-end from architecture through production reliability and partner integrations

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 5+ years of backend or platform engineering experience in high-scale production environments
• Strong systems design skills with proven ability to transform ambiguous requirements into reliable, maintainable solutions
• Experience working in fast-moving environments with high ambiguity and independent ownership
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, performance optimization, and production reliability
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills

Preferred experience:

• Background in fintech, payments, or capital markets with exposure to international payment rails, foreign exchange, or multi-currency ledgers
• Familiarity with financial concepts including multi-currency accounting, reconciliation, and cross-border compliance
• Experience integrating with third-party financial APIs or international banking partners
• Interest in or exposure to international regulatory environments and compliance requirements
