Senior Engineering Manager – Marketplace

About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing SaaS organization in the e-commerce platform space. Our client is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead critical marketplace and seller experience teams in Bordeaux, France. This is a high-impact role for an experienced engineering leader who thrives in fast-paced, technically demanding environments.

You will lead approximately 12 engineers across two squads focused on seller journey optimization and marketplace channel integrations with major platforms. This role requires strong technical depth in Java, proven people leadership, and the ability to drive execution across distributed international teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop two engineering squads responsible for seller experience and integrations with external marketplaces including Amazon, Walmart, and Zalando
• Partner with Product and Design to translate business needs into executable engineering plans, balancing delivery speed, quality, and technical sustainability
• Drive technical direction across your scope, challenging architectural choices and ensuring scalable, maintainable solutions with strong testing and observability practices
• Coach and develop engineers and tech leads through performance conversations, career development, and growth opportunities
• Build effective operating models that protect team focus, foster ownership, and enable collaboration with distributed stakeholders across time zones
• Contribute to attracting and retaining strong engineering talent

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• At least 4-5 years managing engineering teams, with demonstrated success leading teams of 5-6+ engineers, ideally across multiple squads
• Proven experience in e-commerce, marketplaces, channel management, feed management, catalog management, or order management domains
• Solid Java background with depth to challenge architectural decisions and manage Java engineering teams with credibility
• Track record delivering in fast-moving environments while protecting team focus and adapting management approaches
• Experience collaborating with international, cross-functional stakeholders across time zones

Essential Skills:

• Engineering leadership: setting direction, effective delegation, developing people at all levels
• Execution management: handling delivery, priorities, and trade-offs across multiple teams simultaneously
• Technical judgment in Java architecture, integration design, and distributed systems
• Fluent English required (approximately 50% of working time will be in English)
• Full professional proficiency in French

Work Arrangement: Office-based in Bordeaux with one remote day per week. Close collaboration with colleagues in Paris and the United States.
