About This Role

We are representing a confidential social technology company in their search for a Product Designer who brings both design expertise and analytical rigor to experimentation work. This is not a typical design role where your work ends at handoff—you will design features, build experiments to test them, analyze the results yourself, and use that evidence to drive decisions.

You will be embedded within a product delivery team, working directly with leadership and engineers. You'll design experiences that feel natural and intuitive, frame problems before solving them, run experiments end-to-end, and have honest conversations about what worked and what didn't. Most experiments fail, and that's expected—your job is to learn from them.

English is the working language, but German matters here too. You'll be designing flows for German-speaking users.

Responsibilities

  • Design user experiences that fit naturally into people's daily lives, prioritizing clarity and simplicity over feature accumulation
  • Frame ambiguous requests into clear, testable problems before moving to solutions
  • Run experiments end-to-end: design the test, ensure proper instrumentation, analyze outcomes with the data team, and present findings honestly
  • Conduct user research and talk directly with customers to understand needs that data alone cannot reveal
  • Direct AI tools for first-pass design work while applying your judgment to refine quality and determine where polish truly matters
  • Advocate for removing features that don't earn their place in the product
  • Present work clearly to stakeholders and defend design decisions when challenged
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and product leadership as an integrated team member

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Strong design practice combined with comfort working with quantitative data and analytics
  • Technical capability to build your own data pipelines and dashboards, use experimentation platforms, and work with design system tooling
  • Ability to query and extract data independently using SQL, AI-assisted querying, or similar methods
  • Experience running experiments from hypothesis through analysis to final decision—not just handing off mockups for others to test
  • High attention to craft and detail, with the ability to distinguish between "good enough" and truly excellent
  • Current use of AI as a design tool, or strong interest in leveraging AI for greater impact
  • Clear presentation skills and comfort defending work in front of groups
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Portfolio demonstrating at least one end-to-end project: hypothesis, design, results, and learnings, showing how data and experimentation shaped your decisions

Preferred:

  • Experience with marketplace, community, classifieds, or network products
  • Strong German language skills or confidence designing in German with support
  • Experience building or maintaining design system components
  • Ability to write SQL without AI assistance
