International SEO/AEO Manager

We are representing a confidential digital health organization seeking an International SEO/AEO Manager to drive organic growth across priority international markets. This remote role sits at the intersection of technical strategy, content, and editorial—with a focus on both traditional search optimization and the emerging answer engine landscape shaped by AI.

Responsibilities

• Own international organic growth strategy across priority markets (Spanish, French, Dutch, and German), driving user acquisition through traditional search and AI-driven discovery surfaces
• Develop and execute Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) strategy, optimizing content for AI Overviews, LLMs, and evolving search platforms
• Monitor and analyze brand representation across AI-powered search surfaces and build strategies to improve visibility and citation accuracy
• Lead operational model for multilingual SEO/AEO content production, managing distributed teams of international freelancers and agency partners
• Develop AI-assisted, human-reviewed content workflows with editorial quality frameworks and performance standards for regulated content
• Drive technical SEO strategy with international focus: site architecture, crawlability, indexation, hreflang implementation, Core Web Vitals, and structured data
• Consult on site structure decisions for international expansion, including subdomain vs. subdirectory strategy and URL architecture
• Build and manage content refresh programs to maintain and improve rankings across existing pages in all active languages
• Partner with content creators and translators, leveraging AI tools while maintaining accuracy, brand voice, and regulatory compliance
• Define and report on KPIs tied to organic traffic, rankings, AI citation share, and user growth by market

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of SEO experience, with at least 2 years focused on international/multilingual SEO
• Demonstrated understanding of AEO principles and hands-on experience optimizing content for AI-driven search surfaces
• Experience integrating AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or similar) into content creation and editorial workflows, including quality control processes for regulated content
• Proven track record of driving organic growth in non-English markets
• Deep technical SEO fluency across all core disciplines
• Experience managing editorial or content teams, ideally across time zones and languages
• Familiarity with content strategy and governance in regulated industries (healthcare, finance, legal, or similar)
• Strong analytical skills; comfortable in Google Search Console, Ahrefs, LLM visibility tools, and Looker

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience building AI content workflows with human-in-the-loop review at scale
• Familiarity with how LLMs are trained and how that influences content discoverability and citation
• Background in CMS internationalization (hreflang, locale routing, translation management systems)
• Understanding of E-E-A-T in regulated verticals
• Fluency in Spanish, French, Dutch, or German

This is a fully remote position with flexibility across time zones. The client operates on Pacific Standard Time and asks employees to travel to their San Jose, CA office up to three times per year plus one company-wide offsite. Pay

The client's base salary range for this position is $110,000 - $130,000, plus performance bonus and comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, 401k with employer matching, wellness programs, and remote work support.
