Staff Software Engineer (Ruby or GOlang)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential enterprise software client seeking an exceptional Staff Backend Developer to join their core engine team. This team develops and maintains critical runtime infrastructure, including execution orchestration, event processing, webhook handling, and job execution systems. You will work on complex challenges involving performance optimization, scaling, storage, durability, atomicity, concurrency guarantees, data protection, and encryption.

In this role, you will:

• Serve as a key contributor to the architecture and design of distributed applications with strict performance and resilience requirements
• Build, extend, troubleshoot, and fix complex heterogeneous Golang/Ruby applications, as well as self-contained Golang microservices
• Write well-designed, testable, and efficient code in Ruby and Golang
• Integrate data storage solutions including Postgres, S3, Redis, Kafka, and ClickHouse
• Contribute across all phases of the development lifecycle
• Provide code reviews and technical mentorship to teammates
• Provide technical leadership and collaborate with other teams on shared projects
• Evaluate and propose improvements to existing systems
• Identify bottlenecks and bugs, devising effective solutions
• Help maintain code quality, organization, and automation standards

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience building scalable distributed backend applications
• BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Excellent understanding of distributed systems patterns and algorithms
• Strong knowledge of web application building blocks: databases, load balancers, application servers, message brokers, caching, and monitoring
• Excellent understanding of network protocols and stacks
• Deep knowledge of database technologies, both classic SQL and modern NoSQL
• Solid grasp of common data structures and algorithms
• Multilingual programming experience; proficiency in at least two languages (Ruby and/or Golang required)
• Basic understanding of cloud deployments (Kubernetes, Terraform, ArgoCD)
• Experience with public cloud infrastructure providers (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
• Excellent debugging, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to technically lead projects, including requirements analysis and cost evaluation
• Readiness to work remotely with distributed teams across time zones

Highly Valued Skills:

• Background in Golang, Rust, WASM, or Kotlin-multiplatform
• Network programming experience
• Application and data security expertise
• Deep knowledge of physical database design
• Experience with Docker and isolation technologies
• Related experience in DevOps, ML, DBA, or enterprise applications
• Experience building and deploying data processing pipelines
• Experience working with third-party REST APIs at scale (request throttling, batch processing)
