Software Engineering Manager – Container and Virtualisation Infrastructure

About the Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead their Container and Virtualisation Infrastructure team. This is a fully remote role available across EMEA, LATAM, Canada, and the USA.

Our client is building next-generation private cloud infrastructure at data center scale. As an engineering manager, you'll lead a distributed team working on components that span the entire software stack—from low-level kernel features to high-level management APIs. Your team will work with virtualisation, storage, and networking technologies in complex distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of remote software engineers working on container and virtualisation infrastructure
• Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, regular feedback, and hands-on career development
• Set and manage expectations across engineering teams, senior leadership, and external stakeholders
• Advocate for and advance modern software development practices across the organization
• Participate actively in the engineering process through code review and architectural guidance
• Engage with the open-source community and technology partners
• Travel globally 4-6 weeks per year for team meetings and industry events

What We're Looking For

• Deep understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes
• Proven track record of developing and growing engineering talent
• Strong focus on delivering timely, high-quality software
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or equivalent field
• Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills
• Hands-on programming experience in C and/or Go
• Previous technical leadership experience with successful, collaborative engineering teams
• Demonstrated ability to solve challenging distributed systems problems
• Deep knowledge of Linux kernel, virtualisation, storage, and networking
