Software Architect – Containers / Virtualisation

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential open-source infrastructure organization seeking a Software Architect specializing in containers and virtualization. This is a home-based position available across EMEA, LATAM, Canada, and the USA.

You will lead the architecture and evolution of a modern system container and virtual machine orchestration platform built in Golang. The technology stack spans low-level kernel work (namespaces, confinement, security, filesystems, networking) through to high-level management APIs and CLI tools. You'll also shape a complementary micro-cloud solution that combines container orchestration with distributed storage and networking to deliver resilient cluster-scale infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Drive architecture and design decisions for container and virtualization platforms
• Provide technical leadership across engineering teams and open-source communities
• Develop features and improvements in Golang and C
• Review code submissions and ensure security, performance, and maintainability standards
• Mentor engineers and advise on career development
• Collaborate with distributed teams globally, with travel twice annually for in-person team events
• Set technical direction and maintain delivery momentum across concurrent workstreams

What We're Looking For

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM discipline, with exceptional academic performance
• Proven technical leadership experience motivating teams and setting technical direction
• Strong programming skills in Go and C
• Deep experience with storage systems, networking, and virtualization technologies
• Hands-on expertise with container technologies and orchestration
• Background building concurrent, distributed systems
• Strong Linux experience (Debian or Ubuntu environments preferred)
• Knowledge of modern cloud infrastructure offerings and their underlying technologies
• Self-starting work style with strong organizational skills and ability to deliver on schedule
• Detail-oriented approach with focus on performance optimization
• Professional written and spoken English
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative, professional manner
