Information Systems – Open Source Technical Architect

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential global enterprise software organization in their search for an exceptional Open Source Technical Architect for Information Systems. This is a unique opportunity to shape infrastructure strategy at massive scale, working with cutting-edge open source technologies across EMEA.

In this role, you'll define best practices in infrastructure as code for a global distributed operation. You'll architect solutions that impact millions of users, leading technical teams to embrace modern operating principles and automation excellence. This is a fully remote position within the EMEA region, with twice-annual in-person team gatherings.

Responsibilities

• Define and implement the holistic vision for world-class internal cloud infrastructure
• Establish and maintain technical design roadmaps and guidelines for Site Reliability Engineering teams, focusing on reliability, resilience, and operational scalability
• Collaborate with cloud operations development teams on roadmap requirements and prioritization for highly standardized, automated operations
• Provide strategic input to management regarding technology choices, reliability, and business cases
• Lead technical decisions to implement self-service solutions with scalable operation in mind
• Partner with security teams to establish best practices and respond to emerging threats
• Automate operations for reuse across enterprise environments, accounting for distributed systems complexity
• Design service architecture, documentation, playbooks, policies, and operational procedures alongside development teams
• Analyze incidents and events to identify root causes and implement structural improvements

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Exceptional academic track record with undergraduate degree in a technical subject, or compelling alternative path
• Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts, technologies, and operations
• Practical expertise in Linux networking, routing, firewalls, internet transit, and large-scale/bandwidth networking
• Experience managing significant production outages, incident response, and postmortems
• Passion for enterprise open-source software solutions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English across all mediums
• Familiarity with and passion for open-source technologies, especially Debian-based systems
• Track record of exceeding expectations and delivering outstanding results
• Confidence to exchange feedback and share ideas openly

Preferred experience:

• Modern software engineering practices including peer review, unit testing, source control, CI/CD, and Agile methodologies
• Hands-on experience with automated administration of enterprise Linux servers at scale
