Software Engineer I

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential risk intelligence platform serving the logistics industry. Our client is building sophisticated data pipelines and predictive models that transform operational freight data into actionable risk intelligence. This is a ground-floor opportunity for an early-career software engineer who wants to own problems end-to-end—from ingestion through production deployment.

This role is based in Australia and offers the chance to work closely with senior engineers while shipping real systems that handle production traffic within your first few months.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data ingestion pipelines processing freight operational data from transportation management systems, telematics providers, and carrier platforms
• Write transformation and validation logic that normalizes inconsistent real-world records into clean, model-ready datasets
• Develop and refine features for risk and prediction models, and participate in evaluating model performance
• Build backend services and APIs that expose model outputs to customer-facing applications and internal tooling
• Investigate and resolve data quality issues and model failures
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and contribute to testing and monitoring standards

What We're Looking For

• 0–2 years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through internships and substantial personal or academic projects
• Strong programming fundamentals in Python, or another language with willingness to work primarily in Python
• Comfort with SQL and relational data modeling
• Clear written communication skills—the ability to explain technical findings to non-technical stakeholders
• Genuine curiosity about problem domains and comfort working without fully specified requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience

Valued but not required:

• Experience with statistics, machine learning, or applied modeling
• Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP
• Prior exposure to logistics, freight, insurance, or other operationally complex industries
