Software Engineer, Backend (BI Platform) 

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology client in their search for a Software Engineer focused on backend infrastructure for Business Intelligence platforms. This is a hands-on platform engineering role where you'll build and operate the services, APIs, and automation that power data discovery and decision-making at scale.

You'll work on backend and platform problems serving the BI ecosystem, building integrations, automating platform lifecycles, and ensuring reliability and security across production systems. This role combines software engineering with strong user focus, supporting analysts, data teams, and business stakeholders with self-service capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy, and operate backend services, APIs, and automation for BI platform infrastructure
• Automate the complete platform lifecycle including provisioning, metadata management, permissions, migrations, archival, and validation
• Build integrations between BI platforms and the wider ecosystem: data warehouses, identity providers, orchestration tools, CI/CD pipelines, and internal developer tooling
• Improve availability, observability, performance, scalability, and security of owned systems and carry them in production
• Incorporate AI tooling into engineering workflows and, where appropriate, build LLM-backed capabilities held to production reliability and governance standards
• Raise engineering standards through service design, code review, testing, CI/CD practices, and documentation
• Own problems end-to-end from discovery through design, implementation, deployment, and operational support

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend, platform, or infrastructure systems
• Strong proficiency in Python with readable, maintainable, well-tested code; comfort with SQL and working understanding of data modelling and warehousing concepts
• Experience building and owning APIs, integrations, or automation in production with sound judgement on service boundaries, authentication, data contracts, and failure modes
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, observability tools, debugging, and incident response
• Practical experience using AI tools (LLMs, agentic workflows, AI-assisted development) in engineering work with judgement about appropriate use cases
• End-to-end ownership of ambiguous problems, clear communication with both technical and non-technical teams, and comfort self-organising in fast-paced, distributed environments

Nice to Have:

• Experience owning or integrating with BI platforms or familiarity with semantic layers
• Experience automating identity and access through enterprise identity providers, SCIM protocols, or role-based access controls, or building multi-tenant platforms
• Experience shipping LLM-backed features to production users including retrieval, grounding, evaluation, or working with agent frameworks
