Software Engineer – Data Infrastructure

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization seeking a Software Engineer focused on Data Infrastructure. This is a fully remote position available across EMEA time zones, working on automation and operations for distributed data platforms.

Our client is building comprehensive automation solutions for multi-cloud and on-premise data systems. You'll join a collaborative team developing technologies spanning big data, NoSQL, caching, analytics, and structured SQL engines. The focus is on creating fault-tolerant, mission-critical distributed systems and delivering best-in-class automation for data platform operations.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality, idiomatic Python code to create new automation features for data platforms
• Collaborate proactively with a distributed engineering team across multiple time zones
• Ensure fault-tolerant replication, TLS implementation, and installation automation for data systems
• Debug issues and interact with upstream open-source communities publicly
• Provide domain-specific expertise on data systems to internal teams
• Discuss technical approaches and collaborate on finding optimal solutions
• Travel 2-4 weeks annually for internal and external events

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Proven hands-on experience in software development using Python
• Proven hands-on experience with distributed systems
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or similar field
• Willingness to travel up to 4 times per year for team events

Valued additional experience (the more you bring, the higher the level we'll consider):

• Operating and managing data platforms such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, OpenSearch, Kafka, Redis, and similar technologies
• Linux systems administration, package management, and operations
• Public cloud platforms or private cloud solutions
• Operating Kubernetes clusters for persistent data services
