Senior Ubuntu Embedded IoT System Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization seeking a Senior Ubuntu Embedded IoT System Engineer for a remote role based in the EMEA region. Our client works with tier-one hardware partners to deliver Linux-based solutions across robotics, automotive, industrial gateway, medical device, and SmartNIC platforms.

In this role, you'll collaborate directly with leading silicon and hardware manufacturers to optimize platform bring-up, resolve critical system-level issues, and ensure exceptional performance on next-generation embedded devices. This is a fast-paced environment requiring strong debugging skills, deep Linux expertise, and the ability to work across distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide software and system engineering services for OEM and ODM customers
• Work closely with partners on platform bring-up for embedded and IoT devices
• Collaborate with project managers and QA engineers to identify, triage, and resolve critical system problems
• Work with upstream projects to find and apply patches for bugs
• Conduct root cause analysis and document reproduction steps and results
• Facilitate communication between Linux, firmware, and hardware engineering teams
• Travel internationally on occasion to the EU, USA, Taiwan, and China

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Bachelor's or higher degree in STEM, preferably Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
• Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
• Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
• Proficiency in C, Python, and Bash
• Familiarity with Linux boot-up process
• Linux kernel, boot, and system-level architecture skills
• Experience with bootloader development, such as u-boot
• Software development experience on ARM or non-x86 platforms
• Strong Linux debugging and resolution abilities
• Ability to be productive in a globally distributed team
• Ability to learn quickly and work on cutting-edge technologies
• Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long

Nice to Have:

• Experience with system firmware, including u-boot, UEFI, ACPI, DSDT, boot loaders, device firmware
• Experience debugging power management on PCI ASPM, SATA ALPM, low-power profiles
• Experience in board design, bring-up, and validation
• Experience with electrical engineering design tools (schematic capture, layout)
• Computer architecture knowledge of x86, ARM, RISC-V
• Familiarity with open-source development models
• Advanced shell/Python scripting skills
