Software Engineer, Ceph & Distributed Storage

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization seeking a Software Engineer with expertise in Ceph and distributed storage systems. This is a remote position open to candidates in EMEA, LATAM, Canada, and the USA.

Our client operates at the forefront of cloud infrastructure and distributed systems, building modelling software to drive platforms such as OpenStack, Ceph, and Kubernetes. You'll be part of a globally distributed engineering team focused on scaling production solutions and meeting the needs of enterprises adopting cutting-edge storage technology.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality, rigorously designed Python and Golang software for distributed storage systems
• Develop and maintain software for delivery, operations, and life-cycle management of Ceph storage
• Debug complex issues and produce high-quality code to resolve them
• Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team of engineers
• Contribute to technical documentation defining best practices for authoring high-quality operators
• Work with field teams to ensure customer requirements are met in production environments
• Travel internationally several times per year (typically one week at a time) for team alignment and strategy sessions

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field
• Proven experience writing modern, maintainable Python code
• Hands-on experience with Ceph storage systems
• Strong soft skills: articulate, accountable, and self-motivated
• Interest and experience with two or more of: Linux, Kubernetes, public cloud platforms, OpenStack, LXC/LXD, Python, Go, Debian packaging
• Exceptional academic track record from high school and preferably university
• Willingness to travel up to four times per year for internal events

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience operating Ceph clusters in production environments
• Experience with open-source distributed storage solutions such as Gluster, Minio, Mayastor, or similar technologies
