Software Architect (AWS, NodeJS) – Remote, Latin America

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential software consultancy serving clients across multiple industries. We're seeking an experienced Software Architect to join their distributed engineering organization, working remotely from Uruguay. This role offers the opportunity to design and influence large-scale distributed systems for a diverse client portfolio.

As their architecture lead, you'll guide technical decisions across cloud infrastructure, data modeling, and API design while mentoring engineering teams and establishing technical standards that balance performance, security, and cost.

Responsibilities

• Design low-latency service architectures in AWS, making informed decisions about distributed components including queues, caches, and search projections
• Architect systems to explicit latency budgets (p95/p99), optimizing synchronous durable commits in performance-critical paths
• Design audit and evidence systems with append-only event logs, versioned or bitemporal data models, and deterministic historical replay capabilities
• Define fail-open, fail-closed, and degraded-state semantics with clear outage postures
• Architect secure multi-tenant environments, conducting tradeoff analysis between RLS, schema-per-tenant, and database-per-tenant approaches
• Design scalable RESTful APIs and SDK integrations to external services
• Build capacity models and cloud cost/performance projections aligned with AWS Well-Architected Framework
• Establish technical standards, conduct architecture and code reviews, and mentor engineering teams
• Produce architecture documentation, diagrams, and technical decision records
• Present and defend architecture decisions in client engineering and security reviews

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 8+ years professional software development experience, with 3+ years in an architecture-focused role
• Deep experience with PostgreSQL/AuroraDB and Row-Level Security (RLS) at data-modeling and architecture levels
• Strong expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript across the full stack
• Substantial background architecting large, complex systems end-to-end
• Experience working with AI coding assistants as part of daily development workflow
• Ability to overlap US business hours
• Bachelor's degree required
• Extreme ownership and accountability for deliverables
• Client-focused dedication with strong problem-solving and technical leadership skills
• Meticulous attention to detail with a positive, can-do attitude

Preferred:

• Experience in compliance-sensitive or regulated domains (TCPA/DNC, fintech decisioning, audit-heavy systems)
• Experience with event-driven design, message queues, and caching strategies at scale
• Advanced degree
