Senior Controller (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a fast-growing professional services firm in München that needs a Senior Controller to build their management reporting and steering function from the ground up. You will work directly with executive leadership to establish KPIs, dashboards, and planning processes that drive data-informed decisions across the organization.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Developing comprehensive KPI and reporting systems for management, partners, departments, and locations
• Establishing plan-versus-actual comparisons and automated early warning systems for cost and budget overruns
• Analyzing profitability, contribution margins, productivity, utilization, work-in-progress, and working capital to derive concrete steering recommendations
• Ensuring data quality across revenue planning, time tracking, master data, and capacity planning systems
• Building data models and tools to support order, capacity, personnel, and financial planning
• Conducting monthly reporting and steering meetings with partners, tracking action items, and translating numbers into decisions
• Leveraging existing controlling software while building complementary Power BI solutions where beneficial
• Creating partner-specific Power BI dashboards and automated reports using data from multiple source systems including time tracking, HR, and financial platforms

What We're Looking For

Our client needs someone with several years of solid controlling experience who has previously built or significantly developed a controlling or reporting function. The ideal candidate combines technical proficiency with business acumen and strong stakeholder management skills.

Required qualifications:

• Advanced Power BI skills with demonstrated ability to independently build data models, dashboards, and permission concepts
• Strong affinity for numbers and data, with confidence working in Excel, raw data sets, data models, and complex analytical logic
• Understanding of controlling as active business steering—able to translate numbers clearly, question critically, and identify concrete needs for action
• Executive presence to conduct steering and planning discussions with partners and management as equals, with ability to consistently follow up on commitments
• Highly independent, structured, and solution-oriented work style requiring minimal supervision
• Recognition that data quality and clean processes are prerequisites for effective controlling, not optional extras

Valued but not required:

• Experience in professional services, consulting, or similar client-facing environments
• Familiarity with industry-specific controlling software or financial management systems

What matters most is your ability to quickly learn new systems and data structures, recognize connections, and leverage existing tools for better business steering.
