Role Overview

As Senior Underwriter for Financial Institutions at AIG, you'll own underwriting evaluations of complex risks across banks, credit unions, insurance companies, and other financial services organizations. Your judgment will directly influence risk selection, pricing accuracy, and portfolio quality. You'll combine technical underwriting mastery with relationship management to evaluate opportunities that align with AIG's risk appetite and growth objectives.

Your Responsibilities

• Review and analyze detailed financial statements, risk profiles, and operational data for financial institutions seeking coverage
• Assess underwriting risk, including capital adequacy, asset quality, management competency, and regulatory compliance posture
• Develop underwriting recommendations with clear rationale for acceptance, conditional approval, or decline decisions
• Collaborate with broker partners, internal claims teams, and underwriting leadership to refine risk strategy and portfolio performance
• Stay current on regulatory developments, industry trends, and emerging risks affecting financial institutions
• Mentor junior underwriting staff and contribute to team capabilities and process improvement

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience underwriting commercial risks for financial institutions, ideally with 5+ years in underwriting or risk assessment roles
• Strong knowledge of financial services industry dynamics, regulatory requirements, and risk indicators
• Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex financial data and communicate clear, data-backed conclusions
• Excellent relationship and negotiation skills with ability to balance underwriting discipline with business growth
• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
• Detail-oriented mindset with strong analytical and written communication abilities
