Senior/Tech Lead Backend Engineer (Managed Kubernetes)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI cloud infrastructure organization seeking a Senior/Tech Lead Backend Engineer to lead their Managed Kubernetes engineering team. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll spend significant time writing code while managing a team of 4–8 engineers. The service you'll work on provides Kubernetes clusters that run AI workloads across thousands of GPU servers in multiple data centers globally.

As Team Lead for the Core team, you'll own the API, service control plane, cluster autoscaling, platform integrations, and Kubernetes add-ons. This is a remote position where you'll lead by example—writing and reviewing code, running technical projects, and participating in on-call rotations alongside your management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead by example as a hands-on technical leader, spending substantial time on individual contributor work including code development, code reviews, and technical design
• Manage a team of 4–8 mid-to-senior backend engineers, providing coaching, context, and regular feedback
• Participate in on-call rotation, incident response, and post-incident analysis
• Maintain and evolve the technical vision for the Managed Kubernetes Core team's area of responsibility
• Collaborate with Product Management and Service Owners to shape product roadmap and technical strategy
• Lead multi-month technical projects from conception through delivery
• Optimize service control plane performance to manage large-scale Kubernetes clusters with tens of thousands of GPU nodes
• Integrate and improve cluster autoscaling solutions to enhance resource utilization
• Deliver Kubernetes-native solutions for storage, networking, and load balancing features
• Set quality standards and engineering best practices for the team

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 8+ years of professional software engineering or engineering management experience
• Excellent knowledge of Golang, or willingness and ability to quickly switch to Golang
• Proven track record owning and delivering multi-month technical projects
• Experience tech leading other engineers on complex initiatives
• Strong backend engineering fundamentals and system design skills

Bonus qualifications:

• Previous team management experience
• Kubernetes administration experience
• Experience developing Kubernetes controllers or operators
• Background working with cloud infrastructure or platform services
