About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential energy technology organization that is transforming how electricity is priced and traded through AI-driven infrastructure. Our client has experienced extraordinary growth and recently secured significant Series B funding to fuel global expansion and category leadership.
This is a senior individual contributor role with substantial technical leadership responsibilities. You will own the pricing machine learning platform that processes billions of data points and drives thousands of automated decisions daily. Every model you build directly shapes commercial outcomes, and you will see the immediate impact of your work.
The position focuses on building state-of-the-art pricing engines that balance growth and margin while managing portfolio exposure. You will work in a greenfield environment where foundational technical decisions have lasting impact.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction and strategy for pricing machine learning systems, defining what to build and how as a core piece of organizational IP
- Design and implement models that dynamically optimize prices, balancing signing probability, portfolio balance, and margin maximization
- Develop probabilistic models to optimize risk management and short-term balancing decisions in highly dynamic environments
- Bridge modeling and production by owning the data layer while collaborating closely with software engineers and MLOps teams on system architecture
- Communicate model behavior, assumptions, and trade-offs clearly to technical stakeholders across dependent teams
- Lead the evolution from reactive systems to proactive pricing engines that drive growth by targeting optimal customer segments
What We're Looking For
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Deep experience building ML systems for pricing, revenue optimization, or decision-making under uncertainty, with proven commercial impact from concept to production
- Strong foundation in stochastic optimization and probabilistic modeling, with the judgment to formulate business problems using the right mathematical approach
- First-principles reasoning ability to choose between stochastic programming, classical ML, reinforcement learning, or heuristics based on the problem rather than familiarity
- Production-grade Python skills with high standards for code quality and system design, capable of working as a technical peer with software engineers across the full ML lifecycle
- Track record of senior technical leadership in ML, including setting direction for significant technical areas, influencing cross-functional teams, and translating complex decisions for commercial, product, and engineering stakeholders
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience with reinforcement learning or causal inference in applied commercial settings
- Familiarity with energy markets, power trading, or portfolio management
- PhD or equivalent research depth in statistics, applied mathematics, physics, operations research, or similar quantitative discipline
- Understanding of trade-offs between optimization solvers and gradient-based ML methods with judgment about when to apply each
- Experience with high data throughput systems in production environments
