Senior Software Engineer, Python (IPLM)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential software organization with a global presence in DevOps tooling. They are seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Python to join their IP Lifecycle Management suite team in Bracknell.

This role focuses on a Python command-line client and caching layer used by semiconductor and hardware design teams to manage intellectual property, releases, and dependencies at enterprise scale. You'll own end-to-end features across CLI and caching components, working closely with API and database teams as well as customer-facing solutions engineers.

This position blends product feature development, systems engineering, and modern AI-assisted development practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and ship user-facing commands and subcommands spanning IP, workspace, release, update, and snapshot workflows driven by customer requirements
• Extend the CLI's data-management layer, including integration with version control systems
• Diagnose and fix regressions in CLI integration and unit test frameworks; maintain releasable development branches
• Prototype and productionize AI-assisted development workflows, including agent-based QA loops and automated implementation workflows that integrate into daily development

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong Python, Golang, and systems programming in distributed environments
• Command-line tooling experience: argument parsing, subcommand design, structured (JSON) output, and machine-readable error handling
• Experience with version control systems such as Git and commercial VCS platforms
• Solid testing practice: writing and maintaining unit and integration test frameworks
• Comfort working in enterprise source-control environments or willingness to learn; familiarity with source-control internals
• Clear written communication — ability to capture design decisions and technical rationale in tickets and documentation
• Comfortable with Linux for daily use and development system management; experience with bash scripting and diagnosing system issues

Nice to Have:

• Prior experience building or maintaining a Python CLI used by other engineers as part of their daily workflow
• Graph database experience
• Exposure to IP lifecycle management, EDA tooling, or semiconductor/hardware design domains
• Experience with basic development on Microsoft Windows; building and packaging Windows applications
• Hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent) — you have opinions about where they help and where they don't
• Experience designing or operating agent-based automation for CI, QA, or code-generation workflows
• Background in Rust or another systems language; interest in ML/applied deep learning
• Contributions to open-source Python or CLI tooling
