Senior Python Data Scraping Engineer (Freelance)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology client seeking a Senior Python Data Scraping Engineer for a specialized freelance engagement in Canada. This remote role focuses on building and managing end-to-end data extraction workflows for complex web scraping projects. You'll work independently on challenging technical problems involving dynamic content, anti-bot mechanisms, and large-scale data processing.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute complete data extraction workflows across sophisticated websites, ensuring comprehensive coverage, accuracy, and delivery of structured datasets
• Build custom scraping solutions and leverage automation tools to accelerate data collection, validation, and task completion while meeting technical specifications
• Extract data reliably from dynamic and interactive web sources, adapting approaches for JavaScript-rendered content and evolving site architectures
• Implement data quality controls through validation checks, cross-source consistency verification, formatting compliance, and systematic pre-delivery review
• Scale operations for large datasets using efficient batching or parallelization techniques, monitor for failures, and maintain stability despite minor site structure changes
• Troubleshoot extraction challenges independently and solve non-trivial technical problems

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• Minimum 5+ years in data engineering, web scraping, automation, or software development
• Advanced Python web scraping expertise with libraries such as BeautifulSoup, Selenium, or similar frameworks
• Proven ability to handle dynamic content including JavaScript, AJAX, and infinite scroll implementations
• Experience extracting data from complex structures like hierarchies, archived pages, and inconsistent HTML
• Strong background in data cleaning, normalization, and validation with output to structured formats (CSV, JSON, Google Sheets)
• Demonstrated success managing anti-bot mechanisms and dynamic site structures at scale
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent) and containerization using Docker
• Practical experience applying LLM frameworks (LangChain, OpenRouter, or similar) to automation workflows
• English proficiency at upper-intermediate (B2) level or above

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related technical field
• Active GitHub portfolio demonstrating relevant projects
• Self-directed work ethic with strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy

Work Commitment: This freelance engagement requires approximately 10–20 hours per week during active project phases. Time commitment may vary based on project requirements.
