Senior Product Manager – Trading

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential energy technology client seeking a Senior Product Manager to join their trading infrastructure team. This role sits at the intersection of machine learning, energy markets, and product execution—working on complex portfolio management challenges that carry live financial risk.

You'll be the second product manager on a deeply technical team, working alongside ML engineers and data scientists to build and refine forecasting, pricing optimization, and portfolio balancing capabilities. This isn't about owning a fixed feature set—it's about tackling the hardest, highest-impact problems as they emerge across the product surface.

In the near term, you'll focus on portfolio management: fulfilling and balancing a growing two-sided portfolio, managing imbalance positions, and extracting margin from every position held. The systems are still evolving, the stakes are real, and the opportunity to shape how modern energy trading works is significant.

Responsibilities

• Translate business and customer needs into shipped product, working closely with ML and forecasting teams to balance innovation with execution velocity
• Drive initiatives from discovery through regular release cycles, maintaining clear prioritization across Now, Next, and Future roadmap horizons
• Own technical-product specifications, setting success criteria for model performance and designing for edge cases in systems carrying live financial risk
• Make decisive calls on what to formalize, what remains prototype, and what to sunset—acting as both editor and builder
• Work embedded in full-stack teams including ML/data science and software engineers, staying close enough to models to make informed product decisions
• Analyze data independently to validate hypotheses, measure outcomes, and reason about model performance as business indicators
• Engage directly with internal commercial teams and external users (generators, businesses) to understand real-world needs
• Treat hedging, imbalance, and trading decisions as product decisions: determining when to hold positions, trade out, or reprice to close portfolio gaps
• Identify and solve the most pressing problems—such as build-vs-buy decisions for forecasting capabilities or ensuring the system reacts appropriately to market events at scale
• Focus on commercial outcomes over feature shipping—success measured in margin found and risk managed, delivered at pace

What We're Looking For

Essential requirements:

• Proven product execution: You've owned at least one complex product area end-to-end with demonstrated business impact, not just feature launches
• Commercial drive and urgency: You set the pace for yourself and teams around you, push decisions to closure, and actively pursue revenue and margin opportunities
• Trading experience: Background in energy trading is ideal, but financial trading, fintech, battery/EV trading, or similar domains apply—you understand positions, hedging, and live financial risk
• Data fluency: You use analysis throughout the product process to validate ideas, track progress, and measure success
• ML literacy: Experience working closely with ML and data science teams, with ability to make informed calls on model-led products and interpret model performance as business metrics
• Startup/scaleup experience: You've built product in high-growth environments with high personal ownership
• Operational thinking: Strong instinct for failure modes, edge cases, and the reality of live system operations
• AI-native mindset: You understand where AI helps and where it doesn't, applying critical judgment to its use
• Clear communication: Structured communicator, particularly in written form

Bonus qualifications:

• Hands-on energy trading experience (intraday, day-ahead, imbalance, or battery optimization)
• Experience with forecasting or fulfilling two-sided marketplaces as a core product function
• Background navigating third-party access and/or international expansion transitions
• Experience in regulated industries and data-intensive products

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: £85,000-£93,000 base salary, plus equity ownership.

Additional benefits through our client include 25 days holiday plus public holidays (with flexibility to swap), extra birthday leave, remote and flexible working arrangements, home office budget (up to £1,200 annually), and monthly wellbeing budget (up to £150).
