About This Opportunity

We are representing a well-funded energy technology company that is transforming how electricity markets operate through AI-driven infrastructure. Our client has recently secured significant Series B funding and is scaling internationally across modern utility products that have already facilitated billions in transaction value.

They are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join their Data Service team of 4, taking full ownership of critical ingestion pipelines and systems that power pricing, billing, and market operations. This is an individual contributor role with genuine end-to-end ownership—no management responsibilities, just deep technical work on systems that matter.

Responsibilities

You will own the design, reliability, and recovery strategy for data ingestion pipelines across textual data, time-series data, and event streams. Your work will include:

  • Building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines for new and existing data sources, including time-series database systems
  • Determining the right approach (batch vs. streaming) for each pipeline, including high-scale, low-latency requirements
  • Establishing data quality checks that enable SLA commitments and expanding SLA coverage from 2 to 10 data products
  • Maintaining day-to-day platform reliability through monitoring, testing, and proactive issue resolution
  • Working through technical debt prioritized around unblocking SLA commitments
  • Optimizing pipelines for performance and cost as data volumes scale
  • Building observability and alerting systems tied to team SLA commitments
  • Handling energy data-specific challenges including late arrivals, reprocessing, and backfills
  • Preparing the platform for international expansion and new data sources
  • Supporting growing AI initiatives that depend on your platform infrastructure

What We're Looking For

Essential requirements:

  • Strong Python skills with proven production data pipeline experience
  • Experience owning the full design, reliability, and resilience of data pipelines or systems end-to-end
  • AWS or GCP experience in production environments
  • Terraform experience for infrastructure as code
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable scoping SLAs with stakeholders and explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical audiences
  • Strong independent worker who can prioritize against a backlog while collaborating effectively within a small team

Bonus qualifications:

  • Experience with time-series data at scale
  • Familiarity with modern data stack tooling such as Airflow, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or ClickHouse
  • Background in energy, climate tech, or high-growth startups
  • Interest in AI tooling and workflows as they intersect with data engineering

Our client is open to candidates who may not tick every box but bring solid cloud experience and the ability to own their work end-to-end.
