Senior Android Engineer- Hardware

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Senior Android Engineer to join their hardware-focused engineering team in Berlin, Germany. Our client builds payment technology that transforms everyday devices into secure card readers, from Bluetooth-connected hardware to integrated payment solutions. This is a hands-on role where you'll tackle challenging problems around Bluetooth connectivity, online and offline payment flows, and ensuring transactions never get lost—critical work that merchants depend on daily.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Android applications for payment hardware, SDKs, and integrated payment platforms, including both new features and improvements to existing systems
• Develop and optimize Bluetooth Low Energy connections, online and offline payment flows, and contactless payment functionality
• Refactor and modernize legacy codebases to improve reliability, performance, and long-term maintainability
• Contribute to testing practices across the codebase, including unit and integration tests, to elevate overall code quality
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to manage priorities and architect solutions to complex technical challenges

What We're Looking For

• Several years of professional Android development experience with strong proficiency in both Java and Kotlin
• Deep knowledge of clean architecture principles and hands-on experience maintaining Android SDKs
• Proven experience writing unit and integration tests, with confidence refactoring legacy code while preserving existing functionality
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions, and genuine interest in improving build and release processes
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and shifting priorities with strong communication skills for working independently with stakeholders
• Authorized to work in Germany or eligible for visa sponsorship
