Remote Industrial Automation Consultant

Work with TheHiveCareers as a Remote Industrial Automation Consultant specializing in modern manufacturing systems. You'll partner with a dynamic FMCG producer across the Caribbean region to architect and execute a comprehensive automation and Industry 4.0 modernization programme.

Position Summary

This is a 36-month contract engagement combining remote strategic consultation with hands-on implementation guidance. As the lead consultant, you'll shape how a growing FMCG manufacturer integrates intelligent automation, IoT systems, and data-driven quality control across its production network. While based remotely, critical deployment phases may require short-term site visits to the Caribbean location (all travel covered by the client). You'll work in Caribbean time zones and coordinate closely with the client's on-site technical teams to ensure smooth technology adoption and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive system audits to map current manufacturing capabilities and automation opportunities.
• Design scalable automation architectures covering production workflows, cold chain systems, packaging lines, and quality verification.
• Lead PLC, HMI, and SCADA deployments, working with local teams during critical installation and commissioning phases.
• Establish predictive maintenance frameworks using IoT sensors and real-time equipment monitoring.
• Specify and integrate machine vision systems powered by artificial intelligence for automated quality assurance.
• Connect ERP and MES platforms to create end-to-end production visibility and control.
• Design solutions meeting food industry safety and hygiene compliance requirements throughout the modernization.
• Develop detailed technical documentation, runbooks, and training programmes for the client team.
• Deliver ongoing remote advisory services to optimize system performance and support operational scaling.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Automation, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or equivalent discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of field experience in industrial automation projects, preferably within FMCG or food manufacturing sectors.
• Proficiency in PLC programming for platforms like Siemens and Allen-Bradley control systems.
• Demonstrated capability with SCADA and HMI software architectures and implementations.
• Background successfully consulting remotely with distributed teams and guiding on-site technical staff.
• Working knowledge of industrial IoT ecosystems, sensor networks, and control system design.
• Familiarity with food production automation standards and hygiene compliance frameworks.
