PRN Patient Service Specialist – Urgent and Outpatient Care

About the Role

As a Patient Service Specialist, you'll be the first point of contact for patients arriving at our urgent and outpatient care facilities. This full-time position is central to patient satisfaction and operational flow—you'll manage registrations, verify insurance, schedule appointments, and provide timely assistance in a high-volume healthcare setting. Your ability to remain calm and organized while juggling competing priorities directly impacts the patient experience and clinical staff efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Check in and register patients with accuracy and courtesy upon arrival
• Verify insurance coverage, eligibility, and patient financial responsibility
• Process patient information into electronic health records and scheduling systems
• Schedule appointments and send confirmation messages to patients
• Answer phone calls and respond to patient inquiries in real time
• Direct patients to appropriate care areas and assist with wayfinding
• Maintain strict confidentiality and HIPAA compliance in all patient interactions
• Assist clinical staff and providers with administrative support as needed

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Proven experience in patient-facing or customer service roles
• Proficiency with electronic health record systems and patient management software
• Solid understanding of insurance verification and basic medical billing
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a busy urgent care environment
• Professional demeanor and compassionate approach to patient care
• Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and privacy standards
