Role Overview

As a Registered Nurse specializing in obstetric newborn care at Vumc, you will deliver comprehensive nursing support across labor and delivery, postpartum, and neonatal units. Working full-time nights in this clinical role, you'll collaborate with obstetricians, pediatricians, midwives, and nursing colleagues to ensure optimal outcomes for both mothers and infants throughout their hospital stay. Your clinical expertise and compassionate presence make a direct difference during one of life's most significant transitions.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and document the physical and emotional status of mothers during labor, delivery, and recovery
• Provide immediate care, assessment, and support for newborns immediately following birth and throughout hospitalization
• Administer medications, assist with procedures, and manage intravenous therapy under physician direction
• Educate mothers and families about infant care, feeding, safety, and postpartum recovery
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary care team to coordinate patient care
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards
• Respond to emergencies and high-acuity situations with clinical competence and calm professionalism

Skills & Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state of Tennessee
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with progression to BSN may be considered
• Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to continuing professional development and evidence-based practice
• Certification in obstetric or maternal-newborn nursing preferred
