Referral Coordinator (P/T-Temp)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare organization in their search for a Part-Time, Temporary Referral Coordinator (4-month assignment with possibility of extension). This remote position offers the opportunity to directly impact patient access to specialized musculoskeletal care while working with a mission-driven team focused on value-based care delivery.

Our client operates within the MSK care space, partnering with health plans and providers to coordinate evidence-based, patient-centered treatment. This role is critical to ensuring patients receive timely access to orthopedic services through efficient referral processing and prior authorization management.

Responsibilities

• Establish and manage workflow processes to obtain insurance prior authorizations (primary focus)
• Receive, track, and process incoming referrals from primary care providers and partner organizations
• Submit documentation for insurance authorizations on outbound referrals and manage denials or appeals
• Verify insurance and referral information to ensure completeness, accuracy, and regulatory compliance
• Communicate authorization status updates to referring providers and maintain timely feedback loops
• Schedule patient appointments with orthopedic clinicians, coordinating provider availability with patient needs
• Manage scheduling logistics for urgent or complex cases requiring additional coordination
• Maintain accurate records in EHR and referral tracking systems
• Partner with operations, clinical, and provider relations teams to ensure smooth care transitions
• Identify and escalate barriers to care access or workflow bottlenecks
• Support quality improvement initiatives related to referral timeliness and patient engagement metrics

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 2–3 years of experience processing insurance prior authorizations and managing referrals
• Bilingual Spanish fluency (spoken and written)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for engaging patients and providers
• Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail with capacity to manage multiple patient cases simultaneously
• Familiarity with EHR systems, referral management tools, and HIPAA compliance requirements
• Resourceful problem-solving skills to quickly resolve scheduling or documentation barriers
• Patient-centered approach with calm and compassionate demeanor

Preferred Qualifications:

• Background in musculoskeletal, primary care, or specialty care coordination
• Experience in value-based care environments
