Senior Data Platform Engineer (Azure, Databricks, Terraform)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential financial technology organization in a senior platform engineering role. This is a mature, production-scale initiative focused on automating secure, compliant cloud infrastructure for banking clients. You'll work on a self-service platform that provisions Databricks environments and orchestrates data synchronization between on-premises systems and cloud infrastructure.

This position is based in Canada and involves collaboration with engineering teams internationally, including quarterly on-site planning sessions in Europe.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve platform automation that provisions Databricks workspaces at scale
• Write Terraform code for deploying and managing Azure infrastructure components
• Develop orchestration and provisioning logic using Apache Airflow
• Build reliable data synchronization pipelines connecting on-premises data lakes with cloud environments
• Contribute to the governance layer, ensuring Databricks governance remains synchronized with on-premises data governance systems
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams in a hybrid environment

What We're Looking For

Required Skills:

• Strong hands-on experience with Databricks, including workspace administration and Unity Catalog governance
• Solid Terraform and infrastructure-as-code experience in Azure environments
• Proficiency with Apache Airflow for orchestration and automation workflows
• Data engineering fundamentals with proven ability to build reliable data sync and integration pipelines
• Kubernetes experience (platform runs on OpenShift)
• Senior-level autonomy: able to take ownership of technical initiatives and challenge architectural decisions constructively

Nice to Have:

• Docker and containerization skills for building platform components as container images
• Experience with GenAI on Databricks (agents, RAG architectures)
• German language skills (working language is English)
• Background in regulated industries such as banking or financial services
