Principal Fire Surveyor

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fire safety consulting organization seeking a Principal Fire Surveyor to join their team in Glasgow. Our client works with organizations UK-wide to deliver critical fire protection assessments and technical support across construction and operational phases. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced surveyor who values technical excellence and client service.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site fire inspections and surveys during construction and operational phases across various building types
• Perform fire stopping and fire compartmentation surveys, ensuring compliance with British Fire Safety Legislation and standards including Approved Document B, BS9999, BS9991, and BS7974
• Undertake third-party oversight of fire stopping and fire compartmentation installations
• Execute visual fire door inspections and identify non-conformities with reference to BS8214
• Liaise with product manufacturers to discuss tested details and primary test evidence supporting field applications
• Author detailed technical reports using digital fire protection software and Microsoft Word
• Manage your own client portfolio while exceeding expectations
• Maintain current knowledge of industry guidance, product literature, and regulatory updates
• Deliver internal CPD presentations in your specialist field when required
• Travel regularly to client sites for surveys and meetings, with occasional overnight stays

What We're Looking For

• Degree in Building Surveying, Fire Safety Management, or similar discipline
• Full UK driving licence with access to your own vehicle
• Strong understanding of fire safety design and guidance for different building occupancies
• Proven experience undertaking fire compartmentation surveys and advising contractors based on manufacturer literature
• Advanced knowledge of construction methods and forms of construction
• Expertise in internal passive fire protection products, fire testing regimes, and product field applications
• Advanced knowledge of refurbishment schemes and contractor management on-site
• Ability to work independently, manage your own workload, and input survey data using mobile apps or tablet devices
• Exceptional attention to detail during surveying and information review
• Strong ability to obtain pertinent information from relevant parties for robust reporting
• Good knowledge of the Fire Risk Assessment process (desirable)
• Experience carrying out intrusive external wall surveys on high-rise residential, office buildings, retail complexes, and historic buildings (desirable)
