Principal Engineer

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization in their search for a Principal Engineer based in London. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead strategic technical initiatives within a fast-growing engineering organization building cutting-edge AI-powered customer experience solutions.

As a Principal Engineer, you will work autonomously on high-impact projects, building both back-end and front-end systems while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping technical architecture, mentoring engineering talent, and driving strategic execution across the R&D organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead the definition and execution of key strategic technical initiatives across the engineering organization
• Build scalable back-end and front-end systems that serve customers globally
• Provide assessments of project progress, risks, and challenges to engineering leadership to guide resource allocation and prioritization
• Contribute to technical architecture decisions as the platform scales to handle increasing customer demand
• Balance agility with scalability and availability, supporting continuous deployment and incremental feature releases
• Participate in all phases of software development including ideation, prototyping, design, and hands-on implementation
• Play an active role in hiring, mentoring, and career development of engineering team members
• Raise the bar for technical standards, performance, reliability, and operational excellence
• Partner closely with Group Engineering Managers on technical strategy and leadership

What We're Looking For

• Demonstrated experience building SaaS products used by customers worldwide
• Significant, measurable impact on products and engineering teams in previous roles
• Deep knowledge of a high-level programming language such as Ruby, Python, or Perl
• Strong experience with distributed systems
• 2+ years of experience as the primary technical leader for a team
• Proven track record of collaborating directly with technical leaders, product teams, and designers to deliver value
• Strong sense of product strategy and pragmatic approach to engineering challenges
• Ability to work autonomously and drive strategic execution
