Network Engineer (C++) – 6 month FTC (Brighton, Cardiff or Remote)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential game development studio seeking a Network Engineer (C++) for a 6-month fixed-term contract. This is a hybrid position based in Brighton or Cardiff, requiring 3 days onsite each week, with remote work available on remaining days. Fully remote applications will also be considered.

You will be a key contributor to AAA video game development, responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising robust, scalable, and low-latency network features and systems for a proprietary game engine. A primary focus will be on developing and maintaining multiplayer server architecture, with particular expertise in listen mode game servers.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and augment networking systems for a proprietary AAA game engine
• Develop and maintain multiplayer server architecture, focusing on listen mode game servers
• Optimise network features to ensure low-latency and high-performance gameplay
• Ensure efficient and reliable networking technology that facilitates innovative player experiences
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather feedback and problem-solve
• Maintain thoroughness in development to provide a solid foundation for exceptional gameplay

What We're Looking For

Essential:

• Proficiency in C++
• Strong maths skills with experience in networking or game development
• Strong experience with multiplayer network architecture, particularly listen mode game servers
• Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain robust, high-performance networking systems within game environments
• Genuine passion for video games and creating engaging player experiences
• Eagerness to learn new technologies and practices

Desirable:

• Experience with proprietary AAA game engines
• Development experience for current-generation consoles (Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5)
• Experience working with larger teams and collaborating on large-scale projects
• Previous experience working with internal and external stakeholders
