Medical Assistant – Pediatric GI Clinic

Vumc is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to join our Pediatric Gastroenterology clinic in Nashville, TN. You'll work directly with pediatric patients and their families, providing essential clinical and administrative support in a specialized GI practice dedicated to children's digestive health.

Position Summary

This is a full-time Medical Assistant position located in Nashville, TN at Vumc's Pediatric GI clinic. You'll serve as a clinical support specialist, performing vital tasks that enable our gastroenterology team to deliver safe, effective care to young patients. Your role bridges direct patient interaction with clinical procedures, requiring both technical competence and a gentle, reassuring demeanor when working with children.

What You'll Do

• Welcome and prepare pediatric patients for gastroenterology procedures and examinations with age-appropriate communication
• Obtain vital signs, medical histories, and relevant clinical information from patients and guardians
• Provide direct clinical assistance during endoscopic and colonoscopic procedures
• Collect, label, and prepare laboratory specimens according to established protocols
• Document clinical findings, patient education, and procedural details in medical records
• Explain pre- and post-procedure care instructions to families
• Clean, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment and treatment areas following infection prevention standards
• Coordinate scheduling, follow-up appointments, and care referrals to optimize patient flow

Who We're Looking For

• Current Medical Assistant certification (CCMA, RMA, or state-recognized equivalent)
• Clinical experience working with pediatric patients or in a gastroenterology setting
• Proficiency in venipuncture, vital sign measurement, and electronic health record systems
• Strong interpersonal skills and natural comfort interacting with children and families
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy clinic while maintaining attention to detail
• Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA compliance, and infection control practices
• Reliable local transportation to the Nashville, TN clinic location
