Ophthalmic Technician PRN

Vumc is seeking a full-time Ophthalmic Technician PRN to join our eye care team in Nashville, TN. In this role, you'll support our ophthalmologists by delivering quality diagnostic care and ensuring every patient has an excellent experience from check-in to follow-up.

Role Overview

In this position, you'll be the clinical backbone of our ophthalmology practice, working directly with patients and ophthalmologists to deliver comprehensive eye care. Your expertise in ophthalmic procedures and equipment will help us maintain the high standards Vumc patients expect. You'll thrive in a fast-paced medical environment where attention to detail and patient communication are essential.

Your Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary eye testing and measurements, including visual acuity screening, tonometry, and refractometry
• Operate and maintain specialized ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and instruments
• Conduct visual field testing and other diagnostic procedures as directed by the ophthalmologist
• Gather comprehensive patient history and document findings in electronic health records
• Prepare examination rooms and sterilize instruments according to clinical protocols
• Assist ophthalmologists during patient examinations and procedures
• Educate patients about their conditions and post-procedure care instructions
• Manage patient flow and scheduling to optimize clinic efficiency

What You Bring

• High school diploma or GED
• Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or actively pursuing certification
• Demonstrated experience in ophthalmic clinical settings
• Proficiency with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and electronic health record systems
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in patient care
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse patient populations
• Reliability and flexibility to meet the scheduling demands of a PRN role
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with clinical teams
