HR Business Partner – Retail (12 Month FTC, Maternity Coverage)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential retail organisation seeking an HR Business Partner for a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover contract in Manchester. You will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across UK and international markets, delivering commercially focused HR support to a diverse, multi-site retail workforce.

In this role, you will:

• Partner with leaders across corporate functions to provide strategic HR guidance that drives performance, growth, and organisational effectiveness
• Collaborate with Centres of Excellence (Employee Relations, Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, Reward & Benefits, and Payroll) to deliver joined-up people solutions
• Coach and develop leaders to enhance people management capability and drive high performance
• Support organisational design, restructures, and consultation processes, ensuring alignment with business strategy and legal requirements
• Take ownership of key HR programmes including engagement, retention, performance, and development initiatives
• Serve as a trusted advisor on Employee Relations matters, working closely with ER specialists and legal counsel to ensure fair, consistent, and compliant outcomes
• Analyse workforce data through Oracle to provide insight-led recommendations that support strategic decision-making
• Manage multiple priorities across different functions, geographies, and employee populations with a proactive, solutions-focused approach
• Drive consistency in people practices across the UK and international markets, navigating local legislation and cultural nuances
• Support the ongoing transition towards a Centre of Excellence model, bringing continuous improvement to evolving people practices

What We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate brings:

• Proven experience operating as an HR Business Partner within a fast-paced, multi-site retail or eCommerce environment
• Comprehensive working knowledge of UK Employment Law, with exposure to international markets (Australian employment legislation experience is desirable)
• Demonstrated experience managing Employee Relations matters and partnering effectively with ER specialists and legal counsel
• Experience working within or alongside a Centre of Excellence model, collaborating across specialist functions including TA, TD, Reward, and Payroll
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance business outcomes, risk, and employee experience in a high-growth environment
• Data-driven mindset with the ability to translate workforce insights (including through tools such as Oracle) into actionable people strategies
• Excellent communication and coaching skills, with demonstrated ability to influence and build credibility with senior stakeholders
• Experience with TUPE and leading or supporting organisational change and transformation programmes (advantageous)
• Curiosity and adaptability in adopting new technologies, AI tools, and data-driven approaches to enhance HR effectiveness

This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence in Manchester 3 days per week, with frequent travel across the UK to retail locations.
