Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential fire engineering consultancy seeking an experienced Principal Fire Engineer to join their London team. In this senior technical leadership role, you will:
- Lead and deliver complex fire engineering projects from inception through to completion across commercial, residential, healthcare, education, industrial, and infrastructure sectors
- Develop fire strategies for new-build and existing building projects
- Undertake fire safety engineering analyses, including evacuation modelling, smoke control assessments, and performance-based design solutions
- Provide expert advice on compliance with UK Building Regulations, Approved Document B, and relevant fire safety legislation
- Review and approve technical reports, calculations, and design documentation
- Liaise with architects, developers, contractors, approval authorities, and wider project teams
- Act as a technical lead and mentor for junior and mid-level engineers
- Contribute to business development activities, including client engagement, tender submissions, and project proposals
- Maintain awareness of evolving legislation, industry standards, and best practices
- Represent the organization at client meetings, industry events, and technical forums
What We're Looking For
Our talent team is seeking candidates with:
- Degree qualification in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards chartership
- Proven background in fire engineering, preferably within a consultancy environment
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to shape fire safety strategies while ensuring regulatory compliance
- Experience delivering complex projects across diverse building sectors
- Technical expertise in evacuation modelling, smoke control, and performance-based design
- Excellent communication skills for liaising with multi-disciplinary project teams and approval authorities
- Leadership capabilities with experience mentoring junior engineers
