Responsibilities

We are representing a growing specialist regulatory economics team in London, working on behalf of one of our confidential consulting clients. This is an opportunity to join consultants advising energy, water, and other regulated-sector clients—plus government departments, regulators, and investors—on complex regulatory, policy, and investment challenges. You'll tackle price controls, regulatory strategy, utility business planning, market design, decarbonisation, and broader economic analysis. Expect exposure to major infrastructure challenges and collaborative, multi-discipline teams who translate rigorous analysis into practical recommendations.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Delivering regulatory economics and policy projects across energy, water, and other regulated infrastructure sectors.
  • Helping regulators and government bodies develop and implement effective policy and regulation.
  • Analysing regulatory frameworks, policy proposals, incentives, and complex datasets to draw clear conclusions and actionable recommendations.
  • Building, owning, and maintaining robust financial and economic models that support regulatory and investment decisions.
  • Producing regulator-ready reports, consultation responses, and regulatory submissions, as well as concise executive presentations.
  • Managing defined workstreams, coordinating inputs across teams, maintaining quality, and supporting on-time delivery.
  • Building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, contributing ideas and constructive challenge throughout engagements.
  • At Senior Consultant level: taking greater ownership of workstream delivery, leading client discussions, shaping outputs, and supporting junior colleagues' development.

What we're looking for

  • Experience or a strong grounding in regulation, regulatory economics, public policy, or regulated industries, with a clear interest in applying this expertise to client challenges.
  • Background in consultancy, a utility, a regulator, or government.
  • Understanding of how utility-sector regulation, policy, incentives, or economic frameworks influence business and investment decisions.
  • Strong quantitative and Excel skills, with experience analysing complex information and taking ownership of analytical models.
  • Excellent written communication skills—you can produce structured, evidence-based long-form reports, submissions, or consultation responses.
  • Ability to create concise, compelling presentations and communicate recommendations clearly to senior, technical, and non-technical audiences.
  • Intellectual curiosity, sound problem-solving skills, initiative, and ownership, alongside a collaborative and adaptable working style.
  • Beneficial experience in one or more of: utility price controls, regulatory business planning, financial modelling, cost–benefit analysis, investment appraisal, energy transition or decarbonisation programmes, government or regulator roles, electricity/gas/water networks, or commercial consulting.
