Director of Product, AML & Fraud Prevention

Responsibilities

We are representing a regulated fintech organization seeking a Director of Product to lead their newly established AML & Fraud Prevention domain. In this role, you will:

• Drive and align the AML & Fraud Prevention domain on a unified vision, expressed through measurable objectives and key results
• Own the product roadmap across AML/CTF, sanctions and PEP screening, KYC, transaction monitoring and fraud prevention, building alignment across product teams and leadership
• Partner with MLRO, Compliance, Risk and Legal teams to translate regulatory obligations into product requirements and advocate for automated solutions where manual controls exist
• Manage multiple competing objectives and provide clarity to the delivering organization
• Use and analyze data to size risk, identify product opportunities, and build the right capabilities at the right time
• Own build-vs-buy decisions, then assess and collaborate with vendors in building and maintaining AML/Fraud prevention solutions
• Anticipate regulatory change including the EU AML package and AMLA, PSD3/PSR, and evolving sanctions regimes
• Build, mentor, lead and scale a team of Product Managers
• Implement best-in-class product development and managerial practices

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of experience in product management, with substantial experience in AML, financial crime, compliance, risk or fraud, ideally at a regulated financial institution, e-money institution, PSP, bank or fintech
• 4+ years of developing people and managing teams, including Product Managers
• Deep working knowledge of the AML domain: KYC and identity verification, customer risk scoring, sanctions and PEP screening, transaction monitoring and alert handling, SAR/STR reporting, and the regulatory frameworks behind them (EU AML directives and the AML package, national transpositions, FATF standards)
• Hands-on experience with fraud and scam prevention: detection models and rules engines, account takeover controls, chargebacks and disputes, and the trade-off between loss reduction and false positives
• A proven track record of successful product launches (at least two substantial projects with 6–9 month minimum duration)
• Comfortable operating in a regulated environment: experience working alongside compliance officers, internal and external auditors and supervisors
• Able to deliver from 0 to 1, and not afraid to build your own tools to achieve your goals
• Exceptional leadership skills and substantial experience building high-performing teams of 10+
• Significantly above-average business acumen, analytical skills and long-term planning skills
• Strong quantitative and qualitative abilities: able to assess and understand complex systems quickly, integrate usability studies and research into product requirements, and serve as a product ambassador
• Well organized, with a collaborative attitude and strong sense of ownership
• Excellent communicator in written and spoken English
