Engineering Manager – DevOps & AI Platform

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead their DevOps and AI Platform functions. This is a strategic people-leadership role at the intersection of platform reliability and emerging AI infrastructure, managing approximately twelve engineers across two critical functions.

Responsibilities

• Lead, grow and develop engineers across DevOps and AI Platform functions, owning hiring, performance management, coaching and career development
• Set strategy and operating model for DevOps including release safety, developer experience, observability, cost optimization and platform scalability
• Lead the AI Platform function as a centre of excellence, owning shared agent-building frameworks, patterns, MCP management, evaluation frameworks and AI infrastructure
• Act as a two-way conduit between the centre of excellence and product teams, disseminating best practices and channeling feedback to improve approaches
• Partner with technical leads and senior engineers to shape technical direction while focusing on people leadership and delivery
• Own infrastructure cost, scalability and efficiency with a FinOps mindset as transaction volume grows
• Champion SRE and reliability practices across the organization, partnering closely with the SRE function
• Support infrastructure and process maturity for certifications such as ISO 27001 and SOC2, working with InfoSec

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements:

• Proven track record managing DevOps, platform or infrastructure engineering teams, including hiring and scaling teams
• Deep infrastructure background (cloud, IaC, CI/CD, observability) sufficient to make sound strategic decisions and guide senior engineers
• Genuine curiosity about AI with demonstrated hands-on experience in AI, agents and evaluations—not necessarily deep expertise, but real engagement with the space
• Strong interest in AI-assisted software delivery lifecycle, understanding that adoption, practice and guardrails turn AI access into real leverage
• Kubernetes literacy grounded in hands-on engineering experience, sufficient to reason about infrastructure decisions
• AI fluency with ability to demonstrate practical, responsible use of AI in engineering contexts and set team norms around AI usage
• Leadership style focused on team growth and impact rather than personal technical output
• Ability to earn credibility with senior engineers through sharp questions and facilitation rather than hands-on expertise
• Honesty and pragmatism about timelines and trade-offs when managing long-term build-outs across multiple functions

Bonus Qualifications:

• Experience leading or building internal platforms, ML platforms, developer-experience or enablement functions
• Hands-on exposure to agent frameworks, MCP, or building and running evaluation frameworks
• Experience during company scaling phases
• Exposure to ISO 27001/SOC2 compliance requirements for infrastructure and processes
• Experience with high-throughput, low-latency systems in regulated or financial contexts

Location and Working Arrangements

This position is based in London, United Kingdom, with a hybrid working model. The organization offers flexibility to work remotely from approved locations for up to 90 days per year, plus a £500 remote working budget to set up your home office space.
