Data Governance and Platform Manager

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology client in the home services sector. They are seeking their first dedicated Data Governance and Platform Manager to transform how their organization trusts and uses data.

This is a fully remote, individual contributor role with significant ownership. Our client has built a solid data foundation—a centralized Redshift warehouse, dbt modeling, Airflow orchestration, and Segment event tracking—but data quality, tracking standards, and platform governance currently happen as side work between analyses. You'll be the first person to wake up every day thinking about whether the data can be trusted, building the systems and automation that make governance scale.

You'll own data quality across the entire stack: source data freshness, pipeline reliability, BI platform health, event tracking standards, the semantic layer, and data security. This is hands-on work—you'll write SQL, build monitors, configure permissions, and establish the processes that keep the data warehouse trustworthy as the company scales.

Responsibilities

• Data quality and freshness monitoring: Build automated monitoring across source data, pipelines, and reports; catch upstream schema changes before they break downstream systems; run incidents to resolution
• Data lineage and impact analysis: Create and maintain a living map from production sources to warehouse models to dashboards; establish processes so proposed production changes come with downstream impact assessments before deployment
• BI platform administration: Manage the Lightdash workspace structure, permissions, and rollout; design spaces and governance that enable self-serve autonomy while maintaining discoverability and trust; provide enablement and keep query performance and warehouse costs sustainable
• Semantic layer governance: Extend the recently shipped semantic layer to cover all critical metrics with one governed definition per metric; prevent uncontrolled growth and definition drift as usage scales
• Event tracking governance: Own the governed Segment event catalog; review new events against standards; keep catalog matched to production reality; evolve guardrails for naming, properties, and drift detection
• AI data readiness: Govern what data AI tools can access; keep the warehouse AI-legible through documentation, consistency, and structure that enables accurate agent queries
• Data security and privacy: Manage access controls, PII handling and retention under US state privacy laws, and periodic access reviews
• Governance systems: Build the documentation, ownership models, and review processes that keep governance running without heroics

What We're Looking For

• Governance as craft: You genuinely enjoy making data systems trustworthy and organized—fixing broken naming conventions and building quality systems is satisfying work for you, not a stepping stone to other analytics roles
• AI-native approach: Daily use of AI tools (Claude Code, Copilot, ChatGPT) to build quality checks, write automation, triage anomalies, and document work; understanding that AI agents now consume warehouse data and governance must account for that
• Hands-on senior execution: You write SQL, debug Airflow DAGs, and configure systems yourself—seniority means judgment and speed, not delegation
• Automation-first mindset: Your instinct for any recurring check is to build a monitor, not create a manual checklist
• Effective enforcement: Ability to hold engineers and analysts to standards through clear rules, helpful tooling, and graceful but firm boundaries—without creating friction or being obstructionist
• Technical depth: Hands-on experience with data warehouse and pipeline layers (Redshift, dbt, Airflow or similar); credible experience maintaining BI tools and event tracking at company scale; familiarity with Segment and modern BI platforms

This role is not: A people-management position (you'll work independently initially, though the role may grow into a team); a policy or committee job focused on documentation over execution; a BI analyst role building stakeholder dashboards; or a mature system to maintain—you'll be building governance practices from the ground up.

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: $75,000–$120,000 per year USD

This is a fully remote position with flexible PTO. Our client focuses on results and trusts you to manage your work environment for the deep focus this role requires.
